    • Description

Native language soundbites from each new IOC Member at the bottom of this post. ---- The International Olympic Committee today elected eight new members on the final day of the IOC’s 141st session in Mumbai, India. Four women and four men will become IOC Members, bringing the proportion of women on the IOC membership to 41.1 per cent. This is in keeping with the IOC’s ambition to increase female representation in governance structures, and to lead by example. The eight new members are: Mrs Yael Arad, a judoka who was Israel’s first-ever Olympic medallist at Olympic Games Barcelona 1992. She was appointed President of the National Olympic Committee of Israel in November 2021, making her the first woman to hold this position. Mr Balázs Fürjes, an experienced sports administrator from Hungary, a member of the IOC’s Coordination Commission for the Games of the XXXV Olympiad, Brisbane 2032, Mr Fürjes also chaired Budapest’s 2024 Olympic Games candidature. Mrs Cecilia Roxana Tait Villacorta, an Olympian and former Congresswoman from Peru, who participated in three editions of the Olympic Games as a volleyball player: Moscow 1980, Los Angeles 1984 and Seoul 1988. Mrs Michelle Yeoh, a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Goodwill Ambassador, a dedicated road-safety campaigner, and a campaigner for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Mrs Yeoh is an Academy-Award winning actor. Mr Michael Mronz, an active sports manager in his native Germany, involved in the organisation of important sporting tournaments and events. Mrs Petra Sörling, President of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Mr Jae-youl Kim from the Republic of Korea, President of the International Skating Union (ISU). And Mr Mehrez Boussayene of Tunisia was elected to the membership in his capacity as President of the Comité National Olympique Tunisien.
