    There was success for host nation the Republic of Korea on the opening day of competition at the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Gangwon 2024 thanks to the short track speed skaters in the Men’s 1500 metres. Jaehee Joo took gold in a thrilling seven-man final, taking the lead with only one lap to go. The excited home crowd at the Gangneung Oval saw another home skater Yousung Kim take bronze. Xinzhe Zhang of China won the silver medal
