STORY HEADLINE: IT’S TIME FOR AFRICA - DAKAR, SENEGAL CONFIRMED AS HOST CITY FOR 2022 YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES BY INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE                         DATE: 8 October, 2018 LOCATION: Buenos Aires, Argentina LANGUAGE: English, French STORY SCRIPT: Senegal will host the fourth edition of the summer Youth Olympic Games in 2022 - the first time an Olympic event will be held in Africa. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) membership unanimously approved Dakar to be the host city during the IOC Session in Buenos Aires. Boasting a large youth population, Dakar 2022 provided a visionary, ambitious and technically sound YOG project which was chosen to become the first global sporting event held in the African continent since the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Four African countries bid to host the event after the IOC Session decided in February 2018 that the next edition of the Youth Olympic Games in 2022 would be awarded to the African continent: Botswana, Nigeria, Senegal and Tunisia. After extensive analysis, the IOC’s Evaluation Commission and Executive Board determined in September that the Senegal capital provided the best value and greatest opportunities, acting as a catalyst for engaging young people and developing the country’s sport and youth policy.
