LANGUAGE: English STORY SCRIPT: The IOC today officially opened Olympic House – one of the most sustainable buildings in the world. The inauguration was the highlight of the celebrations to mark the 125th anniversary of the IOC which was founded on 23 June 1894 by Pierre de Coubertin. The ceremony was attended by 700 guests, including the President of the Swiss Confederation Ueli Maurer, the IOC Members, the Presidents of the 206 National Olympic Committees and of the International Sports Federations. They were joined by more than 30 Olympic medallists who won – together with the Olympic Medallists amongst the IOC Members – a symbolic 125+ medals at the Olympic Games. For the traditional ribbon cutting at the bottom of the iconic unity staircase of Olympic House, IOC President Thomas Bach was joined by Swiss President Ueli Maurer, the IOC Executive Board Members, the President of the Etat de Vaud Council Nuria Gorrite, members of the Etat de Vaud Council Pascal Broulis and Philippe Leuba, the Mayor of Lausanne Grégoire Junod and by a number of Olympic Medallists. Designed to reflect the IOC’s overarching mission to make the world a better place through sport and the reforms of Olympic Agenda 2020, Olympic House brings together the IOC staff under one roof. Previously, 500 employees were spread across Lausanne in four locations. It is an investment of the IOC into sustainability, one of the three pillars of Olympic Agenda 2020.
