Short Track speed skaters from the United States and Poland have won historic golds at the Gangneung Ice Arena in the Winter Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024. 17-year-old American Sean Boxiong Shuai won the Men’s 500m, the first gold for the United States in this sport at a Winter YOG, while 16-year-old Anna Falkowska won the women’s 500m, the first medal of any kind for Poland in this event. Shuai held off the challenge of Chinese skater Xinzhe Zhang in a thrilling race, with Hungary’s Dominik Gergely Major in bronze medal position. Wozniak’s fine achievement denied the Korean crowd the chance to see a home skater win a gold medal, but there was still a silver and a bronze to cheer, from 15-year-olds Kang Minji (silver) and Chung Jaehee (bronze).
