The flame for the forthcoming Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) has been lit to start the journey towards the first ever Olympic sporting event in Africa. The symbolic lighting ceremony took place in the historic Panathenaic Stadium in Athens, Greece and the Youth Olympic Torch is now heading to Senegal, arriving in host city Dakar on 12 September. Speaking at the momentous event, International Olympic President Kirsty Coventry described Dakar 2026 as “A new chapter for the Olympic Movement”
