Finland struck gold on the final day of Alpine Skiing competition at the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Lausanne 2020, winning the Parallel event on the slopes of Les Diablerets Alpine Centre. The Finnish team of 16-year-old Rosa Pohjolainen from Hyvinkaa and 17-year-old Jaakko Tapanainen from Nilsia beat Germany in the Final. They won all four races, leaving Germany with the silver medal. For Pohjolainen, it was her second medal of the games after winning silver in the Women’s Giant Slalom. Austria beat France to win the bronze medal in the ‘Small Final’. The Parallel Mixed Team Event is made up of four phases (1/8 finals, quarter-finals. semi-finals and finals). The race is conducted as a parallel event with “head-to-head” races, using Giant Slalom gates and panels. The winner of each “head to head” run will be the one who crosses the finish line with the fastest time. After completing four runs (two runs for each competitor, once skiing the blue course and once the red course), the team with the most points will advance to the next phase. The team of the winning competitor is awarded 1 point. The team of the losing competitor is awarded 0 points.
